Drownings are the leading cause of injury and death for children ages 1 to 4, and rank fifth among the leading causes of unintentional injury death according the u.S. Centers of disease control and prevention.

According to the u.S. Consumer product safety commission (cpsc), children younger than 5 years old represent nearly 75 percent of child drowning fatalities. About one third of children who drown do so in and around the home.
